Digital transformation in Polish industry

One of the key events accompanying this year’s Industry Meetings EXPO KATOWICE will be the conference “Industry 5.0 – transformational challenges of the industrial sector”. The discussions scheduled for it will focus on the latest technological innovations and their applications in industry.

However, it is worth remembering that many Polish companies still do not use one of the basic tools of digitization: ERP systems. They are currently installed in only 36% of companies. This is still far from the EU average, which is 43.3[1].

Meanwhile, when we look into the PMR report Organizational Transformation of Industrial Enterprises in Poland, commissioned by Dassault Systèmes, we find that “the process of digitization, including digital integration in the opinion of 77% of the companies participating in the survey, allows companies to manage their business more efficiently and create a much more effective work environment (74%)”[2].

There is no doubt that Polish companies still have a long way to go. The results of the Digital Maturity Test conducted by PFR among nearly 500 SME companies show that 73% of those surveyed are traditional companies, 16% are digitally developed, and only 4% can be described as innovative.

Although we are accelerating and changing our industry, it seems that the disparities still remain, as shown by DESI (The Digital Economy and Society Index) data for 2022.

They show, among other things. that, for example, artificial intelligence is used by 3.7% of Polish companies, compared to 8% in the EU. Big data processing is used by 8.5% of Polish companies (14.2% in the EU), and e-invoicing is used by 13.2% of companies (32.2% in the EU).
