Excel in the sales department

The proposed workshop is two days of intensive classes, giving knowledge in the field of using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for data analysis and commercial information management in a broad sense.

Target group

The workshop is designed for salespeople, analysts, people working in the purchasing departments of companies, or other people from financial and commercial departments who use the MS Excel spreadsheet in their daily work.

Training methods

The course is conducted using modern, interactive methods, using a multimedia projector, with the active involvement of participants. All exercises are conducted based on examples taken from practice. The classes, despite presenting complex substantive knowledge, are conducted
in an understandable way, ensuring the acquisition of the knowledge provided by each course participant (regardless of previous experience
with Microsoft Excel).

Each participant receives a set of materials and electronic copies with all exercises conducted as part of the course and sample Microsoft Excel sheets.

Training program

The workshop program includes, but is not limited to, the following topics

  • Excel once and today – history of program development, versions, differences and common features
  • Overview of Microsoft EXCEL worksheet capabilities, program organization, document – workbook organization
  • Saving files – *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb
  • Building, modifying, formatting worksheets, creating and using functions
  • Specific use of Excel by sales staff
  • Use of relative, absolute and mixed references in formulas (e.g. A1, $A$1, $A1, A$1), use of names
  • Using basic Excel functions (math, date and time, logical functions, etc.).
  • Building a database on a worksheet, entering data, selecting data using criteria
  • Organizing Excel work on a computer network: simultaneous work of multiple users on one worksheet, linking worksheets and workbooks using a computer network, merging data from multiple worksheets.
  • Use of controls (lists, drop-down lists, buttons, dials) to automate actions performed on worksheets.
  • Graphical presentation of data using charts (charts presenting multiple data series, trend analysis on a chart, custom charts).
  • Retrieving external data – database queries, use of MS Query module.
  • Using pivot tables as an analysis tool (e.g. multivariate analysis of sales by selected criteria, analysis of accounting data, analysis of customers, data summaries).
  • Transferring information from worksheets to databases and retrieving information from databases.
  • Preparation of databases and implementation of serial correspondence by transferring data to Microsoft Word word processor.
  • Importing data from text files into Excel
  • Speeding up work by using Excel templates
  • Recording, running and editing macros
  • Consolidating data from different worksheets
  • Organizing work with Excel in a computer network: simultaneous work of multiple users on one worksheet, linking worksheets and workbooks using a computer network, merging data from multiple worksheets
  • Graphical presentation of financial data using charts (compound charts, charts presenting multiple data series, trend analysis on a chart, custom charts, charts based on data from pivot tables),

Benefits of training

After completing the training, participants will be able to apply the knowledge they have acquired to creative data analysis and to build models to make decisions based on reliable and accurate data.
