Excel in the logistics department

The proposed workshop is two days of intensive classes, providing knowledge in the field of using Microsoft Excel for logistics purposes and broadly understood company information management.

Target group

The Excel workshop in the logistics department is intended for logisticians, salespeople and other people who use the MS Excel spreadsheet.

Training methods

The course is conducted using modern, interactive methods, using a multimedia projector, with the active involvement of participants. All exercises are conducted based on examples taken from practice. Despite presenting complex substantive knowledge, the classes are conducted in an understandable way, ensuring that each course participant absorbs the knowledge provided (regardless of previous experience with Microsoft Excel).

Each participant receives a set of materials and electronic copies with all exercises conducted as part of the course and sample Microsoft Excel sheets.

Training program

The workshop program includes, among others, the following topics

  • Excel in the past and today – history of program development, versions, differences and common features – specificity of using the program in the logistics department
  • Overview of the capabilities of the Microsoft EXCEL sheet, program organization, document organization – workbook
  • Saving files – *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb
  • Building, modifying, formatting sheets, creating and using functions
  •  Specificity of Excel use by logistics department employees
    • Inventory analysis and aging,
    • Cost analysis
    • Operations on texts – organizing and processing data – text functions
    • How Excel “sees” time, Date and Time Functions – correct analysis of date and time values
  • Using relative, absolute and mixed references in formulas (e.g. A1, $A$1, $A1, A$1), use of names
  •  Use of basic Excel functions (mathematical, logical, search and address, database, etc.)
  • Building a database on a sheet, entering data, selecting data using criteria, multi-level filtering and sorting, grouping data
  • Organization of work with Excel in a computer network: simultaneous work of many users on one sheet, combining sheets and workbooks via a computer network, merging data from many sheets.
  • Using controls (lists, drop-down lists, buttons, knobs) to automate activities performed on sheets.
  • Downloading external data – database queries, using the MS Query module
  • Using pivot tables as an analysis tool (e.g. multi-variant sales analysis according to selected criteria, accounting data analysis, customer analysis, data summaries).
  • Limiting editing – correctness of data in the spreadsheet
  • Conditional formatting – standard and advanced variants
  • Transferring information from spreadsheets to databases and retrieving information from databases.
  • Preparing databases and carrying out mail merge by transferring data to the Microsoft Word text editor.
  • Import data from text files to Excel
  • Speed up your work with Excel templates
  • Recording, running and editing macros
  • Consolidation of data from different sheets
  • Graphical presentation of data using charts (complex charts, charts presenting multiple data series, timeline charts, trend analysis on a chart, custom charts, charts based on data from pivot tables, slicer),
